Crafty Juniors Crocheted 'Paper' Chain Project

This year all the crafty juniors have been issued with a small crochet kit that is theres to keep.  The idea is that after a few lessons in class they can carry on this project at home on their own.   I have made this page to help them.  In the spring we will then take all the crochet and form it into a chain.

The pattern is:

  1. 6 chain (ch)

  2. Make a double crochet (dc) in the second chain from the hook. Make another 4 dc in each of the following chain stitches (5dc). Do a turning chain (tc)

  3. New row do 5 dc in each of the dc stitches on the last row, tc

  4. Keep on doing rows of 5dc then tc until the crochet is the same length as the cardboard template.

(Remember if looking online a double crochet in the UK is different to a double crochet in the US.  Make sure it is UK sites you are looking at.)

Holding your yarn

Holding your yarn correctly can make crocheting so much easier.  Follow the pictures 2-5 for how to hold your yarn when crocheting.
