The wind and rain is here in earnest, definitely a change of season. Now we have finished the summer season here is a little shop update.
It has been a busy summer, in particular the Visitor Information Service and we have been very pleased to get excellent reviews. Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers who contributed to this. Mairi is coming to the end of her years placement as an HIE graduate and we are putting plans in place to make this a permanent post.
Shop open hours have now changed to Winter Opening Times. These are:
Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm
Saturday 10am - 4pm
Sunday 12noon -4pm
We have re-started our craft ceilidhs every Sunday from 1pm-3pm so if you are on the island and fancy some company while you knit or sew then do come along. It is open to everyone: producers, non-producers, locals, visitors, young and old.... Bring your work-in-progress or learn something new. We are also going to trial an online version of this so no matter where you are you can enjoy crafting and chatting.
Online Crochet classes will also start in November for beginners. Details out soon.
We will also be doing a knitted and crocheted christmas project - not a christmas tree this time, but a snowman - bringing a fun feature to Eoligarry School this Christmas. The Christmas Trees and a Christmas bauble will be displayed in Castlebay.
We are now on the run up to the festive and more items are being loaded onto the website. Keep a look out for new products. If you are posting abroad or you live outside the UK and would like to order then now is the time to do it to avoid the rush and panic before Christmas. If you would like to order knitwear then these will probably be knitted to order so leave plenty time for out knitters to create your special item.
We have produced a calendar which will arrive soon, and pre-orders are already being made so get your order in so you don't miss out. All the proceeds of the calendar will be going towards supporting the Visitor Information Service. We have also produced a Christmas card and some postcards which will do the same.
If you are not one for shopping online then why not book a personal shopping appointment. We do this over the internet and will show you around the shop. We can stop and look at products in detail and hopefully find something that you would like to purchase.
Don't forget about our free wrapping service. Online and in store.
News on the building..... We came to an agreement with CnES before the Scottish Government Hearing in September. The hearing still had to go ahead and it was a good process to go through. We are just now waiting on the report and then we can move forward on the path to getting the building renovated. It has been a long journey to get to this point and it is such a relief to get this far.
At the end of the month Laura and Naomi are off to the Awards Ceremony for the Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards where we have been shortlisted as Independant Retailer of the Year. Keep your fingers crossed for us.
